Next weekend is Homecoming and Eric is taking Carly! (aww...) She's a very smart, nice and talented girl who comes from a wonderful family whom we got to know over the course of Les Miserables!

Everyone has been so busy...

Eric is preparing for another show, "HONK!" he plays the part of "Drake the Mallard Duck", he is also running on the LHS Cross Country team again this year (3-5 miles daily!!), participating in the LHS Show Choir and working a part time job bussing tables still at Jimmy Oh's.

Jakob has started the 6th grade--he is playing Football on the Springfield Rams, he was recently invited to apply for the IMSA E2K+ program at school--it's an after school program affiliated with The Math & Science Academy in Aurora, he has turned in his application packet and essay and should be finding out within the next week or so whether or not he was accepted. fifty-two (52) 6, 7 & 8th graders were invited and only 30 will be accepted. Jake was one of twelve 6th graders. They were picked based on their math and schience ISAT scores--they had to be in the top 20%. So keep your fingers crossed--he's quite excited and hopeful!! If he gets in this year it's an automatic through the 8th grade!

I've been busy with a new project at IDOT--Operation Teen Safe Driving--this is the 2nd year of the program and I've been added to the team and well--it's a subject close to my heart (Eric took drivers ed this summer) so I really am enjoying my work these days. I've been battling an inner ear infection which of course seems to affect EVERYTHING--balance etc--so I feel like a HOT MESS lately!! Otherwise everything else is great!

Corey is still coaching Jake's football team and keeping busy at work (Levi, Ray & Schoup--Sports Recruitment Software Department), lately with everyone's activites we seem to just barely cross path's!! With Eric and Jake doing so well in their math and science classes--I am so grateful for Corey's Math degree--Eric is in Geometry --and I don't think I could BEGIN to help him with his homework! He saves the hard questions for "OD" and they work on them together. He is fantastic at helping the boys with their homework!

Well...ta ta for now!

Marianne

Hankins Family Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13873662049642891526noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2846790440539962453.post-18537634382361536722008-08-09T21:44:00.004-05:002008-08-09T22:24:56.889-05:00Les Miserables

Let me begin with just a "WOW"! Eric and Jakob were both cast in the "ALL CITY MUSICAL" (comprised of kids from all three public high-school's here in town) of Les Miserables, and let's just say there is a lot of young talent in this town!

The show ran a total of 4 nights, many who came and saw mentioned they could not believe it was High School sudents up on the stage! These kids put SO much into this show, they spent much of their summer break in rehearsals and assisting with the sets!

Jakob played the role of Gavroche--and well, yes I am slightly biased but he really did a great job. Eric played many supporting roles and again--I thought he did amazing!! As did everyone else in the show!! We had another fantastic 4th of July we spent the day at Joe's house. (pic's above..)

Eric started and completed Drivers Ed as well as Consumer Ed in Summer School. Now armed with his learner's permit he is successfully giving me several grey hairs!! (for some reason he doesn't like red lights??) I have come to the conclusion that the new law which requires him to have his permit for 9 months really isn't a bad thing! He turns 16 in November but due to that new law he isn't able to apply for his license until April 11, 2009. (whew.) Eric has also landed a job, he will be bussing tables and hosting at Jimmy Oh's a new fine dining restaurant here in town--not too many hours we don't want to cramp his rehearsal schedule nor his place on the cross country team but he wants to work a night or two a week! OH and he got braces too!!

Jakob attended SHG Football camp last week and began practice this week with the Springfield RAMS! It's hard to believe it's "that time again". With yet another promotion under his belt at work Corey was really struggling with whether to Coach or not, in his true style he could not simply let it go so he opted to stay on and assist as long as they found another head coach.

Les Miserables is less than two weeks away. Pre-sell of tickets has begun, and yes before you ask we have ours (and yes..I will be there all 3 nights!)! We have a lot of friends and family traveling just to come and see Eric and Jake perform! The entire cast, crew & director from Kiss Me Kate did a FANTASTIC job!! Eric had a lot of fun, the end was bittersweet. What a fabulous whirlwind we have had!! We have had a lot of fun together!! Christmas Eve was hosted at Jaime's house, she prepared a delicious Prime Rib Roast for everyone and we were blessed with great weather this Christmas and Traci and Mom were able to join us! Everyone got and gave lovely gifts this year, but the very best was us all being able to celebrate together.

I don't know if it's age, or the reflection of three Christmas' past without my father but I feel as if I have so very much to be thankful for. I am so grateful to have such a loving and supportive family, not only just loving and support--but a closeness--sometimes as my mom would say "too close" but at the end of the day--bickering and all I really wouldn't want it any other day. I am so proud to be so close with my sisters, mom and nephew Jack. Jack is my sister's (Jaime) only child--but with being so close with Eric and Jake he is far from an "only child"!

My boys are getting so big and they both strive to do well in school they are loving, respectful yet have strong minds as well as opinions of their own. I am so proud of them. Eric at 15 is so focused on what he wants out of life and in his future and every day does something to get him closer to his goal. His first semester as a High School Freshman has been a successful one, he pulled off straight A's in all honors classes which landed him on the High Honor Roll--again!! He is a true leader and has no problem voicing his opinions. Little Jake--well I say little but soon he too will be hovering over mom like Eric. Jakob also has his ideas of what he wants--at 10, they may be a little far fetched but we all have had our dreams! Jakob also has had a great school year so far, at the Ball Charter School they do not use "letter" grades until the 7th grade, but he is doing VERY well!! Like his brother they both have very creative minds and TALENT!!! Especially when it comes to music, they both sing quite well and love their instruments. Jakob is starting on a 5th grade co-ed volleyball team this Spring--his brother played on the same team in the 5th grade and Jake has been looking forward to it sine then!

I am also very grateful for those who have been "adopted" into my family over the years and they are my extraordinary fabulous friends, who I love and cherish. Without you--I would have lost my sanity years ago!!! Bless you all, for being there, loving me back and for reading my blog!!!

I hope you all feel as blessed as I do!!

Love,

Mare

Hankins Family Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13873662049642891526noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2846790440539962453.post-58833435066093919912007-11-24T17:07:00.002-06:002008-08-09T22:58:33.557-05:00Happy Thanksgiving!!

I hope everyone had a happy and safe Thanksgiving!! As you can see above, Traci with Eric at the dinner table and Traci, Jaime and I (hear no evil, see no evil and speak no evil--that's us!) had an extremely good time with Eric taking our pictures--see more below! We all ate a bit too much--and perhaps a bit to much of that delicious German wine mom brought back for us from Germany. I am usually the one spending countless hours LOOKING for those perfect gifts.
Stay warm and safe! xoxoxoHankins Family Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13873662049642891526noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2846790440539962453.post-25872808066324534672007-11-17T01:04:00.001-06:002008-08-09T22:57:55.941-05:00JAKOB BREAKS AN ARM...no not a leg!

Every parent’s nightmare...that dreaded phone call from school....Yes that recently happened to me!! The child that will be the source of each and every one of my gray hairs-- fell off a zip-line at recess and broke his left arm. YES that is the hand he writes with too!!!!! Just wondering if anyone other than myself asked "why do they have ZIP LINES at recess????" Okay, great than it's not just me. My BESTEST friend Amy works at a school in our home town of Joliet where they also have Zip lines, and it seems to be the source of injury when not used properly....the kids seem to have more fun when pushed by another student--which as it happens is exactly how Jake was hurt! He did comfort me the next day by admitting he realized that the day prior was "almost as hard on me as it was for him..almost"!

I guess it has been awhile since I updated, sorry!!

My mom and Traci returned safely from their Germany trip, and they had a great time, but both seemed REALLY happy to be home. They toured A LOT while there--Switzerland, Paris etc. ...and yes they brought back some awesome gifts (and YUMMY chocolate!!)

Eric made the first quarter honor roll, and looks as if he will make second quarter. He really likes High School and all that entails. His Cross Country season has ended, he is well into the Scholastic Bowl season and he will be performing with his Show Choir at a Madrigal Dinner in December! He has been quite busy---and thank god no broken bones (I would like to age gracefully thank you!!)

I am starting to plan for Thanksgiving I get to cook for the family this year, very excited to have everyone here for the Holiday!!

Well, thank you once again by entertaining me and actually reading this!
Please have a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving!!!Hankins Family Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13873662049642891526noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2846790440539962453.post-21817938178162988082007-09-25T08:58:00.001-05:002008-08-09T22:55:50.466-05:00The New Ride

It's been a busy week or so. The team as a whole did a GREAT job, most of them have played before but not together. From a parents perspective I was most impressed at how organized and how well they paid attention to the coaches, especially on a day like today it was in the mid to high 90's and the game prior to ours ran almost 30 over. SO these kids were in full pads for over an hour before their game began. Most of the team went to the McDonald's after the game for lunch and additional team bonding! It was a great time!!

The final score was 12-8!! GO STEELERS!! Some of you are scratching your head wondering why this is news, but if you knew Eric and how he felt about his hair you would understand. After several days of surfing the web for a hair "idea" we found one. We did make the mistake of going to the Max and Mia in our mall for the cut vs. his regular hairdresser, ( I need to seize the moment...) we gave her the picture and explained we wanted it yet a bit LONGER than the picture, well needless to say she must be hard of hearing because she went shorter. He was SOOO mad, he didn't even want to shop for school clothes after that. Once he got home he played around with it and the picture attached is what he decided he liked. I think it looks great, I love seeing his eyes!! I also think he looks more his age, even with his height he is often taken for younger than what he is!! He is quite handsome--I know I am very BIASED--plus he can't help it, he looks JUST like his mom!!! He is still anxious for it to grow atleast another inch and it hoping it will do so prior to the first day of school. He is taking his vitamins!!!! Needless to say I have been BUSY!! But busy is good right???

I spent a weekend in Joliet visiting with Amy and her family! I got to go with her to pick up a new little black and white Spaniel for Lilly. I think her name is "lilliana"--so cute. Lilly's face LIT UP when she saw the pup and learned it was for her--so that was fun! Amy's son Elliot is driving now and he drove us around a bit--he's very good!

I will be traveling to Chicago for a week of Compliance training (for work) August 12-17. That should be interesting.

Eric and Jakob are in Princeton, IL for the week visiting with their Aunt Teri and her family. They have reported and are having a blast! They went hiking yesterday and saw a waterfall!! Jakob seemed to think it was funny to call me and tell me that he got hurt!! I knew better...that phone call would have come from Teri, not Jakob if true!!! It's so great that they can spend some time with her, she is the only member of the "opposite side" that actively has anything to do with them, and they need that!!

We have school registration for both boys next week and Eric has Freshman Orientation!! How exciting for him, ahh to be that age again!! I can't believe how fast the Summer is flying by, it has been so much fun though. I feel like I haven't squeezed enough into the Summer though. Oh well!!Hankins Family Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13873662049642891526noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2846790440539962453.post-41729214020230670112007-07-08T14:55:00.001-05:002008-08-09T22:47:48.254-05:00SundaysWell, it's looking like Sunday will be the official update day. LOL
We had a great 4th, as I hope the rest of you did--happy and safe!! Mom and Traci were here and we all went to the house of a very good friend of the family. I have added pictures from the 4th!
Nothing much new to report. Mom bought the boys (another) motorized scooter--and they love it, of course! I will make a point to get some pictures of them on it and attach to my blog.

I can not believe the Summer is half over--neither can the boys! Eric has only a few more "working weeks" left, before he starts HIGH SCHOOL!! I don't know who is more nervous --me or him???

Thanks for all of the kind comments, keep them coming and I will keep posting!! HE's getting taller, he's now passed me WITH HEELS ON. He laughs at me in the morning's before I put my shoes on he walks up to me and looks down on mom! HE won't be gaining an ounce this Summer between riding his bike to work and running around like crazy at the restaurant. He has an entirely new appreciation for the Serving Staff at Sammy's!! He is SOOO overly kind now to servers when we dine out. I think this Summer job has really been an extremely positive experience for him.

Jakob's still trucking along in camp. He's not quite as exhausted these days, he must be getting used to it. With football starting just around the corner I am sure the additional conditioning will help!

Well I am going to enjoy the rest of my day off!!Hankins Family Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13873662049642891526noreply@blogger.com2
